The Grade I listed building, Priory Church of St Mary, 'the Westminster Abbey of Wales', is a church in the centre of Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, Wales.
The Priory Trust at St. Mary’s commissioned Sugar to deliver a new Augmented Reality digital heritage experience, delivered through a platform that could be accessible for both iOS and Android smartphone and tablet users.
This project required 11 large artifacts to be 3D scanned. This was done by taking 20-30 images of each artifact and then running those through our photogrammatry software to create an accurate 3D digital model of each item.
These 3D models represent a snapshop in time, preserving the textures, shape and scale of the original object for many years to come. It also enabled us to deliver a detailed 3D representation to all mobile users for them to explore.
We also produced short films about the heritage and provenance of each artifact.
This additional digital content is triggered from small discrete information panels next to the artifact but can also be delivered through any printed material (magazines, newspapers, brochures etc).
