The Valleys have been regreened — changed from the industrial valleys of the last century to an area that is brilliant for many outdoor activities — mountain biking and cycling are both really well served, with mountain bike trails at Afan Forest, Cwmcarn and Gethin Woods (soon to open Bike Park Wales) and over 400km of safe, off road cycle trails on old railways and paths across The Valleys.
We were commissioned by Visit Wales to design and manage the production of a tourism brochure for the South East Wales region. As with the previous years our challenge was to create a brochure which would help market the area to tourists worldwide.
Our solution was to look at the previous brochures and think of new creative ways to add visual excitement for the readers.
Paper stock
We looked at a number of paper samples with an uncoated stock being our choice of product to use. Uncoated paper became our choice as we didn't want there to be any distracting glare on the surfaces of the pages.
Images
We chose a number of images through Visit Wales's extensive photo library and utilised some newly commissioned artistic prints from local painters eg the front cover of Blaenrhonna by Alan Young.
Copy
Descriptive headings were added eg 'Get out… Get dirty!' within the 'activities' section.
